In the last two decades since December 1 was declared as World Aid Day. A great number of campaigns have helped pushed the message forward. As part of effort to bring across this important message to everyone, here are some of the more successful and unique champions of the life saving cause. MTV Staying Alive MTV's Staying Alive (SA) campaign began in 1998 as a documentary about the lives of six young people affected by HIV. Four years later, it expanded into what is today an Emmy-Winning multimedia campaign that involves TV, the internet, youth forums to get the message across. The aim is very simple, to challenge the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV while empowering young people to protect themselves from infection. Find out more at Humor Against AIDS Clerly, laughter is the best medicine for this campaign launched in Denmark on a most appropriate date, 1 April 2004. Instead of anger, sadness or indignation, it chooses to use humour to mobilize politicians, the business community and the public at large into helping to fight AIDS in developing countries. I still like what they put across: "In the face of the extraordinary challenges caused by HIV/AIDS, we must respond with extraordinary measures" Product (RED) I am sure everyone is familiar with this. Spearheaded by U2's led singer, Bono, together with Bobby shriver from DATA, this unique project raises money for the Global Fund to fight AIDS. Tuberculosis and Malaria by getting partner companies to design and sell special merchandise under the Product(RED)brand. (RED) partner companies include some of the heavy weight companies such as American Express, Apple, Motorola, GAP, Converse, Emporia Armani, Hallmark, Microsoft and Dell. Find out more at MAC Cosmetics In an industry that prides itself on looking good, cosmetic brand MAC is certainly a shinning star for its efforts in supporting individuals affected by HIV/AIDS worldwide. MAC AIDS fund has raised over $128 million over the years from special edition VIVA GLAM lipstick. You can find out more at I Stand with MAGIC Basketball superstar Earvin "Magic" Johnson shocked the world when he announced his retirement after he was diagnosed as being HIV positive. Since then, he established the Magic Johnson Foundation to help combat HIV as well as other charitable causes. Find out more at I hope with my little effort here, will help to create some awareness.
